Buy a Teenage Social Entrepreneur’s Education in Uganda for Christmas

Kites - Christmas 2009

Christmas is a time for giving, but most children living in Uganda receive no presents at Christmas and few living in rural and slum areas even know the date of their birthday.  So, this year we want to invite people around the world to give the gift of community action and education to some of the most selfless children living in Uganda.  Most of the young people we work with will be fearful that next year, despite their sefless action to support other young people will not receive any support for their education next year, nor even a present at Christmas to thank them for their community work throughout this year.  So this Christmas blog, we are appealing for your help in supporting the development of these young changemakers.  There are many appeals during this Christmas period, but this one is different.  By supporting these children you are helping not just them, but their whole community.  In some cases by supporting the rural children you might prevent future famine in their village or help whole communities avoid living in poverty completely, as we are training them how to tackle these specific issues.

Every penny you spent will go direct to the young person’s education.  We will try to raise the money for our work independently through StartSomeGood.  If you would like to become a sponsor of any of the young people below, then please contact us for information on how to become a sponsor.  If the monthly amount below is too much, then you can still contribute a lower amount and it may be that we find someone else prepared to pay the remaining amount.

December - 2009 - the first Christmas presents our members had ever received

Note the monthly amount also includes board for the young person.  Also, if they are in the higher classes, then their fees will be more expensive.

Every day over Christmas we will add another story to the blog, explaining why it is important o support these young people to create change in their communities.

The Butterfly Project, Uganda is a unique project, which is training up 20 young social entrepreneurs from the most disadvantaged teenagers in Uganda, either living in the slums of Kampala or in remote rural areas.  We chose young people who were selfless and had ideas about how they could improve the lives of the people in their communities and we have been supporting and training them since 2009.

2012, however, we need more sponsors than ever before, as our numbers have increased, with seven new members from Northern Uganda in 2011.

Lastly, if you do choose to sponsor, you will be able to correspond directly with the young social entrepreneur yourself and help give them advice on how they can be a better changemaker.  What better present is there to yourself than that???
