As part of the Slum Olympics 2012 events in Kampala, Uganda, Social Enterprise Africa is running a special sponsored event and we are looking for runners anywhere in the world prepared to run 10,000m for sponsorship at 2.00pm 12th August 2012 around a route of your choosing, for the lives of child athletes in Uganda, who will also be running the 10,000m with you at the same time. If you live in Birmingham, UK, then a group of runners will be starting in Small Heath.
We have timed the event to coincide with the end of the Olympics, as a celebration of what the Olympics stands for – sport excellence around the world. And from one of the world’s richest capitals, we focus on the most deprived young athletes in one of the most disadvantaged slum districts in the world, in Eastern Kampala, Uganda.

Many children aged up to 16 from the local running club at the Chrysalis Centre in Uganda will be running in their own event, which will be 5 laps of their slum 2km circuit. Every member finishing the 10,000m will be sponsored for their education for the next term, up to 60,000sh (about £15), which is sufficient for most local Primary schools. If we have many sponsors, then we will use the extra money towards a planned new sports centre for local slum children, where they can learn a range of new sports, including taekwondo, acrobatics, running, badminton and many more.
